Integrating Expressive Arts in Play Therapy

This workshop offers an overview of integrating expressive arts in play therapy. The presenter will focus on a Gestalt play therapy approach to using expressive arts. The presenter will guide participants through a variety of experiential exercises, inviting participants to become comfortable with the expressive arts techniques being discussed. 

This workshop will have two 15-minute breaks and one 60-minute lunch break. 

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe three therapeutic benefits of using expressive arts in play therapy
  2. List three expressive arts interventions that can be used in play therapy
  3. Discuss the role of expressive arts in developing a therapeutic relationship through a Gestalt play therapy lens
  4. Explain the importance of tending to process and product when using expressive arts in play therapy
  5. Discuss the benefits of using expressive arts in play therapy with clients from different backgrounds and cultural experiences
  6. Discuss the benefits of involving the body in expressive arts through a Gestalt play therapy lens
